My People

My People Showed Up

The human figure has been part of my artwork since I was a child, yet the artwork I had been crafting before Covid-19 changed our lives, was not figurative in any way. My focus was on exploring and researching abstraction and nature. When Shelter in Place was implemented in March 2020, My People Showed Up…

My People Showed Up is about how we are all connected: we are all of one face/one race: human. This work demonstrates how humanity is in knots while simultaneously being in community. We are separate, distanced while connected and proximate.

I have filled eight sketchbooks, painted several canvases, and crafted dozens of drawings of My People since then. I find flow within this imagery; a sense of peace and connection. These drawings embody my firm belief that now is the time to grieve what we have lost, celebrate community, and embrace this opportunity to create.
