Inspired by land

My studio space feels like a treehouse perched in the Oakland Hills. Redwood, Oak and Fruit trees are my constant companions. I draw comfort from their presence and contemplate their limbs and the shapes of their branches as they cut across the sky.

The lines the trees create and the way they diffuse light inspire my mark-making while informing my color choices. I envision their roots burrowing deep beneath me, grounding me to the earth and my compositions. The trees model for me, as if to say; “look at me, listen to me, and remember.”
