Artist Statement

I am a visual artist and educator who lives and works in Oakland, California. I consider my artwork the result of compulsive art making; I strive to make connections while manipulating a myriad of ephemera and materials.

My practice begins by sorting through the variety of curios, objects and materials that fill my studio space. This habit activates my hands and my thinking. Fresh ideas and images, as well as old memories fuel my imagination. My goal is to tell visual stories that capture the process of this remembering and the interplay between the natural world, humanity and imposed order.

Biography

I proclaimed myself an artist as a child and have been making meaning by creating art ever since. In addition to my Oakland, CA studio art practice, I am a founding faculty member of the San Francisco Friends School.

I hold a BFA in Fine Arts from UCLA and a Masters Degree in Education specializing in Arts Integration from Lesley University.

My publications include a children’s book, Coffee with Cream, and my methods and practice are included in Studio Thinking from the Start and Arts-Based Methods in Education from Around the World.

I have exhibited locally, in the Bay Area, nationally, and internationally. My collectors hail from around the globe.
